Financial Aid
James River Day School is committed to making its educational opportunities available to students without regard to financial circumstances.
James River is dedicated to serving a cross-section of our community and to helping families meet the cost of independent education. We believe that independent education must continue to foster diversity in its school population; we believe in a multicultural and multiracial environment; and we believe that learning involves differences and diversity.
The school recognizes that covering the cost of independent school education can be challenging. Therefore, all families must carefully consider the best means of funding their childrens’ educations. JRDS has several payment plans available to help families meet these costs. A need-based financial aid program is also available by application to assist students who otherwise cannot afford to enroll. Aid is available at all grade levels, and anyone can apply. The school strives to meet, within the limits of its aid budget, the need of each family as determined by the results of an independent analysis by the School and Student Services (SSS) in Princeton, NJ.
To begin the financial aid process, we ask that the following be submitted to the Director of Financial Aid, Susan Bingham:
1. A Parent's Financial Statement (PFS) to the SSS beginning November 1. PFS forms are available from Susan Bingham by calling 434.384.7385 or you may apply on-line.
2. A letter addressed to the Director of Financial Aid, explaining your situation and specific need.
3. A copy of your last tax return filed.
4. An enrollment contract.
The Financial Aid Committee (consisting of the Director of Financial Aid, Assistant Head of School, and Director of Admissions) will review each application and make determinations based on the above information. All information is kept strictly confidential.
