Arts

We teach progressive music theory and fundamentals in every grade level (K-5) each year. Students are offered performance venues within the school and community. Elementary musical productions provide opportunity for even our youngest students to become familiar with singing, speaking and dancing on stage. James River offers after-school piano and art classes, plus a drama club for older students.

In middle school we take a music history approach drawing parallels in language arts and history for cross-curricular studies. Some grade levels experiment with instruments and experience playing in an ensemble.

Music classes meet once weekly for thirty minutes (K-2) and forty-five minutes (3-4). Middle school students see an increase to fifty minutes twice weekly for one trimester (5-7).
